Language represents that wonderful invention which insures the entire progress of the humanity. Throughout the language humans can communicate their messages both in oral and in written form, can transfer the historical and social heritage of the society. At the very beginning people need to communicate even if they lived in tribes they send their messages either by natural or conventional sighs.

Men are the unique creatures who have such an astonishing ability to speak. That’s why language is only possessed by humans. Speaking about the ability to speak in written form it can be revealed that people use a lot of imagination while sending the message in written form. They created signs on stone, clay, wood, papyrus, or parchment in order to send their message and it involves a lot of imagination to do that. And from the part of the receiver there should be a certain imagination to decode the sighs and their message. Language was studied centuries ago by different savants who gave theories about the origin of language. In spite of this nowadays the origin of speech and language remains one of the most significant hurdles in evolutionary theory, even in the twenty-first century.

Apart from the written form people use oral form of expressing thoughts. A component part of the oral form is kinesics (body language, facial expression, eye contact, body positions and form of greeting). They use it in every day speech in order to show their feelings and attitudes by using different gesture, posture and mimics. By this the listener can easily notice if the speaker tells the truth or lies, if he/she is happy or not and even find out different new things about that person. As a result the speaker should know the role of body movement in every day communication and moreover to take it into account.

Language represents the human activity, but without this around 99,9% of the activities will stop. People use language every time and everywhere. We need to communicate with our friends, parents, relatives and even unknown people. By its help people can build relationships, share thoughts and feelings. In conclusion I can firmly say that language is real a very important tool in our daily life. No matter how the speaker uses language by movements, eye contact, mimics, gesture or speaking it is important to use it at the right time and at the right place. These are the reasons which define language as an important element which makes our lives more interesting.

Analysis of “The Cat in the Rain ” by E.Hemingway the second draft

Ernest Hemingway’s “ Cat in the Rain” is a short story which highlights the relationship between wife and husband.

The beginning of the story is mostly devoted to the description of the place which is Italy. The action takes place in one day. The weather condition points out that it was rainy. The mood is sad and unfriendly. The author tries to emphasize the monotone and empty atmosphere that the rain has created.

The title of the short story suits the plot very well. In fact, it hides the real meaning of the story. Moreover it can be viewed as an allusion to the American wife. The cat is lonely in the rain and the woman feels loneliness in her marriage.

The opening scene reveals the fact that the American couple stopped at the hotel. The wife was looking through the window and she saw a cat which was in the rain. The wife wanted to save the cat, that’s why she wanted to go down stairs. Her husband was so preoccupied with his reading and even did not pay attention towards his wife. Hearing that she would leave the room he decided to be polite and offered his help, but without stirring a finger, moreover he did not get up from the bed. After this the woman went out, but unfortunately when she was under her window the cat was gone. Then she returned to her room very sad and exclaiming that she wanted a cat so much. Her husband seems to be annoyed by that and not interested at all. Even when she said to him that she wanted to let her hair grow up to become more feminine, he coldly answered that he liked her in the way she was. The short story ends with a knock on the door. It was the hotelkeeper who brought to the woman “a big tortoiseshell cat pressed tight” adding that the cat is for “the Signora”.

The setting of the story is manufactured. It can be remarked by the fact that they were stopped at an Italian hotel, where “Italians came from a long way off to look up at the war monument.” They have chosen Italy because they have no place where to go. There was a public garden near the hotel and the war monument. But in fact the war monument has an indirect connotation to the fact that the action took place after the war. People were lost, insecure about their life but in spite of this they try to get used with the situation.

Due to the narrative elements, it is not so difficult to determine the structure of the story. The story has an exposition (the author describes the setting, the characters and their behavior). The development we can see in the discussion of the couple about the salvation of the poor cat. The climax is when the woman complained her dissatisfaction with the condition she is living at that moment. And the denouement is represented when the woman received a cat from the hotelkeeper. Even if she received a cat, her happiness in marriage did not come. Her marriage problems are still the same.

There are two main characters of the story. One of them is the American wife who is not described directly by the author. E. Hemingway has not even given her a name. She is simply named “The American wife, The American girl”, because her husband never carried about her and even did not listen to her. The woman feels lonely, that’s why the author uses the repetition of the “cat”, which is the symbol of loneliness.  The woman was lonely and needed love, attention, emotions and certain feelings from her husband. Moreover the woman sees herself within this cat. The cat may also symbolize a child that the woman desperately wants. The continuous desire of the woman to save the cat reveals the salvation of her own marriage. Another symbol that characterizes the woman is the “rain”, because she is continuous sad as the atmosphere the rains creates. The rain is the symbol for tears, sorrow and anger. Everything seems to be hopeless till she met the hotelkeeper. By this meeting the woman has changed, because she felt a certain respect and a different attitude towards her “The wife liked him. She liked the deadly serious way he received any complaints. She liked his dignity. She liked the way he wanted to serve her. She liked the way he felt about being a hotel-keeper. She liked his old, heavy face and big hands.”
The other main character of this story is the husband George. From my point of view Georges considers his wife as nobody. Actually he does not bother about his wife, he does not understand and even listen to her. He has a certain superiority on his wife because she behaves like he wants “‘Don’t you think it would be a good idea if I let my hair grow out?’  ‘I like it the way it is”. And she did not change her look, because he did not want it. After reading I understood that the man has an inappropriate behavior towards his wife “‘Oh, shut up and get something to read.”

The hotelkeeper is the minor character of the story. He was the only one who has a different attitude towards the young woman. He behaved with her in a friendly way. Moreover he was a caring person. In this man the American wife saw the qualities that she wanted in her husband.

It goes without saying that all the characters are important in this short story because they created the atmosphere of the story. It is through them that the author expressed his feelings and ideas.

Personally I enjoy reading this short story. The story reveals a problem of entire humanity which is the relationship in a couple. Definitely a couple cannot be resistant if there are misunderstandings, quarrels, indifference, and even loneliness. In my opinion after reading this story we can take some lessons, and do not behave in such a way with our partners.

As a matter of fact the author uses the stylistic device “repetition” which is one of the widely used by Hemingway. Frequent use of repetition rends the story more vivid, convincing, more real and emotional. Here he applies it to reveal the relationship of the protagonist to the old hotel owner (she liked … , she liked…). The author uses different symbols such as: cat symbolize compassion, affection. These are the things the woman missed. She needs emotions and certain feelings from her husband. The continuous desire of the woman to save the cat reveals the salvation of her own marriage. The rain is another symbol and it creates a continuous sadness in the soul of the characters. Everything seems to be hopeless.

The main characters of the story are directly introduced by the author. They are George, his wife and the hotelkeeper. The woman has many personality traits in her character as : motional emptiness, loneliness, childishness and her strong feelings for the hotelkeeper. George is the unpleasant character who treats his wife with a lack of affection and attention. From my point of view Georges considers his wife like a child, but actually he doesn’t understand her and makes no efforts to make her feels loved. He is a selfish husband that why he ignores his wife’s feelings. The third character is Hotelkeeper who has a different attitude from the husband’s attitude towards the young woman. He behaved with her in a friendly way. Moreover I could remark that he was a caring person. It goes without saying that all the characters are important in this short story. Everyone has its role, and in my opinion they accomplished what they should do. Definitely the characters created the atmosphere of the story. It is through them that the author expressed his feelings and ideas, in an extraordinary way.

Personally I enjoy reading this short story. I like it very much, because it reveals the truth of nowadays. It has an impact over our behaviors and attitudes towards the person we have near us. In conclusion I may insist on the fact that we should be respectful, lovable, attentive , passionate, and never forget about our duties of husband or wife.

Internship is a period of time during which a student applies in practice his/her knowledge acquired at the University. Students have the opportunity to do their internship twice during four year of studies. Generally internships have some benefits but in the same time certain challenges.

Speaking about the benefits it should be mention the fact that students gain practical experience which he/she can not get while studying. Students can practice their future profession, by making lesson plans, preparing different tasks and materials. Internships really offer good chances to students and involve them in the career field.

The students have their internships in order to find out if they have made the right career choice and all the doubts to disappear. Generally internships are short-term, from four to six weeks, and while it students realize if they are able to be a teacher in the future.
Internships give the opportunity to meet people in professional area. Students have the possibility to meet numerous teachers with great experience. This is an advantage for all the students. Every time students try to take from them different types of activities, materials that they used. In addition the intern can be correct by the teacher when it is necessary in order to raise the student’s level of proficiency.

In spite of the benefits there are some challenges that can have an impact to the student. Often students can have troubles with some pupils. There are different children and they can have not so good attitude towards the young teacher, by making noise or being unprepared for the lesson. Students could not integrate the material on time. This is the cause that some materials remained unused. Moreover children may not understand your explanations. Another challenge is emotions. This is the time when he/she is in the front of the class and explains the new topic, or when she/he did a certain mistake. Unfortunately by the end of four years of studies he/she has no guarantee that successful completion of a school’s internship program will lead to a full-time job offer.

To conclude I can say that internships are useful for students. Especially because the young teachers have the possibility to apply in practice knowledge acquired at the University. Definitely the internship develops abilities and skills for the future career. Students are aware of what they have to meet in the future. After all that was said the young teachers should not be afraid of their profession. The only thing is that they have to work hard in order to achieve good results.

My expectations

Academic Writing is a new course for me and I have certain expectations for it.
Firstly I want to find out what Academic Writing is . How it should be structured in order to be good done. Secondly I expect to develop my writing skills and use them in practice. I hope that this course will be a good support for me, and I will change my style of writing. I do not only want to learn a correct writing but also to learn new vocabulary, new ideas, new concepts and then use them in my future career as teacher. I know that this course won’t be an easy one, sometime I will succede sometime not, but I will do my best. To conclude I want to point out that only with a lot of practice I will write better than now, and I expect that this course will fulfill my desire to write in an coherent way.
